POINT PLEASANT — Gallery at 409 will host its fifth annual Christmas Gala this Thursday, Dec. 8 with internationally acclaimed recording artist Steve Free providing the entertainment.
The gala, which is free and open to the public, takes place from 6-9 p.m. and includes food and drinks.
Free is an award winning and Grammy nominated singer songwriter. He’s charted over 40 songs on the international and national charts in multiple genres. He won the 2008 Governors Award as the number one artist in his home state of Ohio, and in 2009 was honored by the Kentucky State Senate for his “musical contributions to Appalachia.” Of Shawnee and Cherokee ancestry, he is an accomplished Native American flute player and an Ohio Arts Council “Ohio Artist On Tour,” according to staff at Gallery at 409.
Visitors to the event will also get to take in the Christmas decorations in the gallery which have become an integral part of the gala each year. The tour, featuring stops in Gallipolis and Point Pleasant, is Friday evening, Dec. 9, from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m., and Saturday afternoon, Dec. 10, from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.
Also at Thursday’s gala will be several pieces of art on display, including a piece by Gallipolis-based artist Jamie Sloane. Sloane revealed the first piece in his “visiteur” series at last year’s gala and will reveal even more of the series on Thursday.
