Scouts retire Old Glory down on the farm

Gallipolis Boy Scout Troop #200 alongside Cub Scout Pack #204 took part in a retirement of American flags ceremony Tuesday evening on the Bob Evans Farm to provide a dignified disposal to aging and worn flags. As is tradition, participants build a special fire, recite the Pledge of Allegiance and honor past veterans before placing a flag in the fire. While in the fire, participants salute the flag silently. A flag is to be burned one at a time before the next is consumed. Troop leaders said over 200 flags were disposed of over the course of the event.
