GALLIPOLIS — Gallia County sheriff’s deputies arrested a Columbus man Wednesday in Vinton who was allegedly involved in an abduction and rape of a woman in Franklin County.

Gallia County deputies received a tip saying they had spotted a man they recognized from a CrimeStoppers website and felt he had a warrant for his arrest out of Columbus. The caller notified police dispatchers before alerting deputies.

Deputies called the Gallia County Jail to verify whether Richard Henderson, 47, had warrants for his arrest. Deputies then proceeded to Scenic Drive in Vinton, where Henderson was reportedly last seen. Henderson answered the door of the residence and deputies took him into custody.

The charges leveled at Henderson are both first-degree crimes, rape and kidnapping. According to Gallia County Sheriff Joe Browning, his information says that in July, Henderson allegedly grabbed a woman by her hair and dragged her into an alley in the area of West Broad Street and North Yale Avenue in Columbus before using force to subdue and sexually assault the victim.

Browning said he believes Henderson has family in the area.

Gallia County deputies are in the process of working with the Columbus Police Department on the case.
