Church continues Lenten fish fries

Staff Report

GALLIPOLIS — Lenten Fish Fry is on the table at Saint Louis Catholic Church in Gallipolis.

Because of the popularity of the Lenten fish and shrimp dinners, church officials decided to continue this annual activity.

All dinners will be served between 4:30-7 p.m. on the following dates: Feb. 19, Feb. 26, and March 4, March 11 and March 18.

The fish fry started numerous years ago and has become extremely popular, church officials said, and many meals have been served throughout the years. Diners receive a full dinner, beverage and dessert. The large number of customers who return year after year is a testimony of how good the food is and how much the guests appreciate the value and camaraderie, church officials said.

It’s estimated that between 100-200 people are served during a single evening. Families and friends meet, and grandparents, parents, children and friends eat together.

Also, many church members return each year to do some of the same jobs. This takes many workers each week to prepare the food, bake various desserts, cook, serve, clean and do the dishes.

The adult meals are $9 and children’s meals are $4.50. Those younger than 3 years old are free. Take-out orders are also available.

The menu includes fried and sautéed fish, shrimp, fries, baked potato, green beans, hush puppies, Cole slaw, macaroni and cheese, tea, lemonade, coffee and various desserts.
