Madelyn Simpson was recently named the 2017 recipient of the Jaret Rae Boothe Memorial Scholarship.
She is the daughter of Janetta Simpson, of Gallipolis. While attending South Gallia High School, Simpson was active in National Honor Society, Beta Club, Leo Lions, Student Council, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, yearbook and newspaper staff.
Awards she earned are as follows: National Beta Club State Champion in Oratory Competition (two years), Franklin B. Walter All Scholastic Award, Wendy’s High School Heisman State Finalist, Female Student of the Year (9,10,11,12). In addition, she was a senior salute winner, which is only given to the top 10 percent in a graduate class. Simpson was valedictorian of the class of 2017.
She plans to attend Marshall University to major in secondary math education. The Jaret Rae Booth Memorial Scholarship was established in spring 2004 in memory of J.R. Boothe who graduated from South Gallia High School as valedictorian of the class of 1999. Recipients are selected ased on GPA, leadership, service, character, and percentage of activities in the Beta Club.
