The National FFA Livestock CDE is a competitive event that tests the student’s ability to select and evaluate livestock. Event components include eight evaluation classes of beef, sheep, swine, and goats; oral placement reasons on four classes; and a written exam on livestock production. A team activity, utilizing reproductive and marketing information, demonstrates the teams’ livestock selection ability.
The Gallipolis FFA Team placed 21st overall with Johnson as the team high individual at 30th in the nation. A highlight of the event for our group was the “Team Activity” portion of the contest. At the annual awards banquet topping off the week, Gallipolis FFA members Johnson, Clagg, Brumfield, and Ager were called to the stage and recognized for placing first in the nation in the Team Activity component of the contest.
Agricultural Education is offered at Gallia Academy High School through the Gallia-Jackson-Vinton JVSD. Jerrod Ferguson and Katherine Terrell are the Gallipolis FFA Advisors.
