Carl Jackson “Papaw” Stapleton, 98, of Crown City, passed away on Tuesday, January 22, 2013, at Holzer Medical Center.

He was born March 4, 1914, in Cabell County, West Virginia, son of the late William Noah Stapleton and Jessie Lambert Hall. He was a retired carpenter and a member of Kings Chapel Church. He enjoyed ministering at Arbors Nursing Home on the second Monday of each month.

Surviving are his children, Floyd E. (Janice) Stapleton, William F. (Edith) Stapleton, Clifford (Joann) Stapleton, Anne (Ed) Gibson, John W. (Karen) Stapleton, Leslie Jackson (Merry) Stapleton, Charles R. (Deborah) Stapleton, Rodney L. (Karen) Stapleton, Marilyn L. (Tom) Danford, Victoria E. (Ted) Keney ; 39 grandchildren; 85 great-grandchildren; and 20 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Ellen Haskins Stapleton in 1942; his second wife, Lesley Iris Holley Stapleton in 2007; one son, Shane Alexander Stapleton; three grandsons; and one brother, Louie Stapleton.

Services will be 3 p.m. Thursday, January 24, 2013, at the Kings Chapel Church with Pastor Clyde Ferrell officiating. Burial will follow in Kings Chapel Cemetery.

His grandsons will be pallbearers.

Visiting hours will be on Wednesday, January 23, 2013, (today) from 5-9 p.m. at the home of his daughter Anne Gibson, 535 Kings Chapel Road.
