Carroll Howard “Smiley” Burnette, Jr., 79, of Gallipolis, passed away on Wednesday, October 31, 2012, at Holzer Senior Care Center following an extended illness.

He was born September 21, 1933, in Gallia County, Ohio, son of the late Carroll H. and Ruth Cochran Burnette, who resided in Patriot, Ohio. Carroll was a U.S. Army Korean War veteran. He retired with 39 years of service from Kaiser Aluminum, Ravenswood, W.Va., where everyone knew him as Smiley. He attended Silver Memorial Freewill Baptist Church and Church of Christ in Christian Union and was a member of American Legion Post 27.

Carroll is survived by his wife, Bonnie L. (Price) Burnette of Gallipolis; one daughter, Deborah (Alan) Reed of Oak Hill; two sons, Craig Burnette and Brent Burnette, both of Gallipolis; two grandchildren, Tiera Burnette and Jacob Burnette; one great-grandson, Jayden Ward; a sister, Bonnie Burnette Fruth of Point Pleasant, W.Va., and a brother, John Burnette of Patriot; as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, November 4, 2012, at Willis Funeral Home with Pastor Alfred Holley officiating. Burial will follow in Ohio Valley Memory Gardens. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 1-2 p.m. prior to the service.

There will be military graveside services.
