Paul E. Cherrington, 85, was born February 3, 1928, and went home to be with the Lord on March 19, 2013, at home, with his family beside him. Paul was the only child of Paul and Opal (Conn) Cherrington. Paul married his high school sweetheart, Dolly Crace Cherrington, on February 17, 1946.

To this union was five children whom all survive: Ervin (Nancy) Cherrington, Rose (Don) Walters, Rhonda (Gene) Gatrell, Jon (Beverly) Cherrington and LuAnn (Bob) Campbell. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Paul was known affectionately as “Papa” by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His greatest gift to his family and friends was his witness of a Christian life. His love of Jesus will be a legacy to all who knew him. He believed in the strength of family, and, with his wife of 67 years, provided a firm foundation based upon the Word of God. His love for the Lord inspired his faithfulness to his church throughout his life. He was a remarkable Bible teacher for many years and left an impact on many lives. Not only was he a fisher of men, he was also an avid fisherman and loved fishing every day that he was able to go. He loved being outdoors and hunting in the beautiful land that God had given him.

In 1957, Paul founded the Cherrington Scrap Metals in Oak Hill, which still operates today. He was a devoted family man and businessman.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; grandson, Joel Walters; and great-grandson, Ethan Rodgers.

Paul will be greatly missed by his wife, family and friends.

Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, March 21, 2013, at the Lewis-Gillum Funeral Home in Jackson. Family and friends may also call one hour prior to the Friday funeral service, which will be held at 11 a.m. at the Trinity Chapel Church in Jackson. Interment will follow in the C.M. Cemetery in Oak Hill.

In memory of Paul, contributions may be made to the Paul Cherrington Memorial Fund at Trinity Chapel, P.O. Box 907, Jackson, Ohio 45640.
