CHILLICOTHE — A Gallia County man who was just released from the Gallia County Jail earlier this year was arrested in Ross County late last week following a drug bust.

Michael J. Hurt, 33, Bidwell, was arrested by the Chillicothe Police Department at approximately 2 p.m. on March 8.

According to the police department’s website, following an investigation, Hurt was arrested last Friday afternoon for felony possession of drugs.

At the time of his arrest, Hurt was allegedly in the possession of two kilograms (approximately four and a half pounds) of cocaine, 400 Percocet tablets and over one pound of marijuana.

The police department has placed an estimated street value of over $100,000 on the confiscated drugs.

Hurt was incarcerated in the Ross County Jail pending his arraignment in court on charges of possession of cocaine, a first degree felony, and aggravated possession of drugs, a second degree felony.

Additional charges will reportedly be presented to the Ross County grand jury pending positive lab results on the confiscated drugs from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation.

No further information about this case has been released by the police department as the investigation into this case is ongoing.

According to the Gallipolis Municipal Court’s online docket, Hurt was arrested on February 1 of this year after a warrant was issued for his arrest for failing to appear for a show cause hearing on January 3, 2013.

In this case, dating back to 1999, the defendant has been charged with disorderly conduct.

A show cause hearing in this case has been scheduled for March 25, according to the docket.

Hurt’s most recent previous offense was also a disorderly conduct charge — a violation reduced from a domestic violence charge, according to the docket — and was filed with the municipal court on June 11, 2012.

On August 6, 2012, the defendant was sentenced to four days in jail in relation to this case, fined $50, ordered to pay court costs and was sentenced to one year of reporting probation.
