Young women such as Stapleton from around the region supported the sale the past two Saturdays in Gallipolis by either providing a dress for the sale or by purchasing one for a special upcoming event.

GALLIPOLIS — For the past two Saturdays, young women from across the region braved the cold weather and made their way to the Ohio Valley Bank (OVB) Annex in Gallipolis for the 7th Annual Formal Dress Sale — many on the hunt for this year’s perfect prom dress.
The sale, held this year on Saturday, January 26 and Saturday, February 2, has become an annual tradition among the OVB family as a means by which to raise funds for the OVBC Employee Community Fund.
The fund, which first began in 1985 as a memorial fund for a former OVB employee, is now an ever-growing program administered by a committee of Ohio Valley Bank and Loan Central employees who seek to provide charitable donations to the community throughout the year.
The sale, organized and co-chaired by OVB employees Brenda Henson and Angie Kinnaird, provides a forum for the sale of prom, wedding and homecoming dresses all for a small entry fee. This entry fee, collected for each dress, goes directly to benefit the employee community fund.
Henson commented that many of those who attend the annual sale are surprised by the quality of the gowns in the sale — many of which are designer dresses. Some even arrive brand-new, with tags still on, according to Henson.
“I think that sometimes shoppers are surprised by the quality and affordability of the dresses,” Henson said.
Henson further expressed her gratitude for the many young women who supported the sale this year, which, in turn, supports a great cause.
“I would really like to thank all those who came out to support the sale,” Henson said. “Words are not enough to express the deep gratitude I have for the mothers and daughters of our community. From early counts, it appears that we have surpassed our goal which means that we have a great start toward fundraising for local charities.”
While this year’s annual formal dress sale may be over, the sale is expected to occur again next year with the generous support of the community.
