Donald Merlin “Don” Robinson, age 94, of Gallipolis, died Monday morning, December 10, 2012, at his residence. Born November 2, 1918, in Hamilton, Ohio, he was the son of the late Stanley and Carrie Dudley Robinson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded by a daughter, Mallonee’ Robinson; two brothers, Hershel and Virgil Robinson; and three sisters, Ada Schutte, Kathleen Robinson and Geneva Barnes.

Don retired as Manager of Buckeye Rural Electric Company after 33 years of service. He was a member St. Louis Catholic Church, where he had served on the Parish Council and the Finance Committee. A Staff Sergeant in the United States Army, Don served during World War II in the Company C 637 TD BN. Through the years, Don had been a member of the Knights of Columbus; The Ohio Rural Electric Co-op Managers Association, where he had received there Light Lighter Award; the Ohio Rural Electric Co-Op Accountants Assoc., where he had served as President; The Gallipolis Chamber of Commerce, where he had served as a director for three years; had served as a cub master with the Boy Scouts; and was an Honorary Kentucky Colonel.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Alvera Lucian Robinson, who he married on December 31, 1950; one son, Gene (Janet) Robinson of Sylvania, Ohio; three grandsons, Michael (Mary) Robinson, of Toledo, Dennis (Allison) Robinson of Orlando, and Joseph (Nikki) Robinson of Boston; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Glendora Bicknell of Hamilton. Don is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, December 13, 2012, at St. Louis Catholic Church with Father Thomas Hamm officiating. Entombment will follow in the Chapel of Hope Mausoleum at Ohio Valley Memory Gardens. Military Funeral Honors will be conducted at the mausoleum by the Gallia County Veterans Funeral Detail. Friends may call at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 12, 2012, from 3 -7:30 p.m. concluding with the Vigil Service at 7:30 p.m. A Rosary service will be held at 4 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to either St. Louis Catholic Church, 85 State Street, Gallipolis, Ohio 45631, or to Holzer Hospice, 100 Jackson Pike, Gallipolis, Ohio 45631 in Don’s memory.
