POINT PLEASANT, W.Va. — Those wishing to stay fit in 2011 have the opportunity to do so with the Twin River Runners Club.

The newly-formed club is open to both runners and walkers. According to club organizers, Twin River Runners welcomes any and all types of runners from those who wish to race competitively or those who want to simply stay in shape.

Those who have never ran before and would like to start also are encouraged to participate. All Mason Countians as well as Gallia and Meigs County residents are eligible to join. The club will hold its first meeting and run at 10 a.m. on Saturday. The meeting portion will take place at Trinity United Methodist Church in Point Pleasant. Nathan Fowler, one of the club’s organizers, encouraged the community to attend.

“There are a lot of runners in this area and we thought it would be a good idea to form a club so we could run together. We not only want to make the club a great time to run with friends and neighbors, but we want to help do great things for the community too,” Fowler said.

Fowler, who has ran a marathon as well as other races, added that he would like to see club members help each other train for various running events ranging from 5Ks to half-marathons and marathons.

“It is always more encouraging to train and run with people rather than by yourself,” he said. “The club is a great opportunity for people in the surrounding communities to come together and have fun running/walking. It will also be a great way to meet people to run or walk with on a regular basis.”
