GALLIPOLIS — A Gallipolis man was sentenced to two years imprisonment in the Gallia County Court of Common Pleas on Monday after he pled guilty to attempted failure to notify change of address.

Tommy L. Johnson, Jr., 25, Gallipolis, a tier III sexual offender, allegedly failed to notify the Gallia County Sheriff’s Office of his change of address on Jan. 20, 2010.

As a sexual offender, Johnson was ordered to verify his address and/or notify the appropriate officials of a change of his address.

Johnson was indicted in Harris County, Texas, for the aggravated assault of a child and was residing in Gallia County when he allegedly changed his place of residence without notifying the sheriff’s office of said change.

On Feb. 22, 2010, Johnson was arraigned in the common pleas court on one count of failure to notify a change in address, a second degree felony.

On Aug. 26, 2010, Johnson was present in court after being arrested on a warrant and pled guilty to attempted failure to notify change in address, a third degree felony, as per a plea agreement. Johnson was initially scheduled to appear for a plea hearing on July 8, however, Johnson failed to appear and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

On Sept. 27, Johnson was sentenced to two years in the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction. He was given credit for eight days served as of Aug. 26 and was further ordered to pay court costs and will be subject to a period of post-release control of up to three years.

Johnson was transported from the Gallia County Jail to an Ohio correctional facility on Wednesday morning.
