Fred was a member of the First Baptist Church of North East. He was a graduate of Springfield High School and earned his B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Ohio State University in 1956. Fred retired from Passport Mangement Co. He had previously been employed with International Paper (formerly Hammermill Paper); Goodyear in Akron, Ohio, where he was instrumental in constructing a Goodyear Plant in Brazil; the Goodyear Plant in Point Pleasant, W.Va.; and with Cooper-Bessimer. Fred was a member of the Erie Koinonia, the East Erie Gideons, the Experimental Aircraft Assn., and the Full Gospel Businessmen’s Assoc. in Gallipolis, Ohio. He was the 12th World Champion in the All American Soap Box Derby in 1949.
Preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary Zeiter Derks and his son Gerald Derks. He is survived by two daughters, Dawn Stanton (Keith) of Lake City and Lorena Derks of Erie; two sisters, June Carey (Wilbur) of Hoquiam, Wash., and Miriam Bowers of Renton, Wash.; five grandchildren, Jennifer Bolack (David), Keith Stanton, Jr., Joseph, Mary and James Stanton; two great-grandchildren, Adrian Bolack-Stanton and Abigail Bolack; several nieces and nephews; and his former wife, Toni Derks.
Friends may call at the Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., East, 2607 Buffalo Rd., Erie, Pa., on Wednesday from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. and are invited to attend a Funeral Service on Thursday at the First Baptist Church of North East, 43 South Lake Street in North East, Pa., at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Bob Klecan officiating.
