GALLIPOLIS — Deputies with the Gallia County Sheriff’s Office seized approximately 25 pounds of marijuana during a routine traffic stop Wednesday on Rowelsville Road in Morgan Township.

Jeffery Brumfield, 57, Bidwell, was arrested after his vehicle was pulled over and inspected. Brumfield allegedly ran a stop sign on Rowelsville Road near Upcreek Road and then accelerated rapidly, while driving left of center. This erratic driving led to the traffic stop.

According to Gallia County Sheriff Joe Browning, due to Brumfield’s suspicious behavior during the stop, deputies brought in a K-9 unit to inspect the vehicle. A drug K-9 indicated that illicit contraband was present inside the vehicle and, after inspection, 25 individually wrapped packages, each containing approximately one pound of marijuana, were found.

Brumfield was charged with drug trafficking, a third degree felony in Ohio, and is currently housed in the Gallia County Jail.
