According to Lawrence County Sheriff Jeffery Lawless, Lucy Dingess, 86, left her home along Ohio 775 in Willow Wood around 11 a.m. Friday, apparently headed for a local beauty parlor. Family members alerted authorities after Dingess failed to show up for the appointment.
Gallia County Sheriff Joe Browning said that his office received a call Monday from a local resident who reported an abandoned vehicle on Wedemeyer Road (Twp. Road 742) near Cadmus in Walnut Township. Deputies and volunteer rescue workers arrived on scene and found Dingess a short distance from her vehicle.
Browning stated that Dingess asked for water, but otherwise appeared to be in good health. She was transported to Holzer Medical Center in Gallipolis for treatment. HMC officials said Monday evening that Dingess was listed in stable condition.
Walnut Township borders Lawrence County and Browning believes that Dingess became disoriented and crossed into Gallia County.
Browning said the Lawrence and Gallia sheriff’s offices coordinated their rescue efforts in the search for the missing woman.
