Nearly 100 Gallia County residents gathered Thursday on the steps of the Gallia County Courthouse for the 2010 observance of the National Day of Prayer.

Local pastors Rev. Randy Carnes from Elizabeth Chapel Church, Rev. Bob Fulton and Rev. Ruth Ann Fellure from First Church of the Nazarene, Rev. Chester Hess from Vinton Baptist Church, Rev. Mike Lynn from Gallipolis Christian Church and Rev. John O’Brien from River City Fellowship participated in the event, offering prayer on behalf of our community and nation and reading scripture.

Rev. Fulton also read the text of President Abraham Lincoln’s Oct. 3, 1863, proclamation that called for a National Day of Thanksgiving and Praise.

The Gallia County Board of Commissioners issued a proclamation recognizing Thursday, May 6, 2010, as the National Day of Prayer in Gallia County.

Commissioner Justin Fallon and several of the ministers involved in the event said they were pleased with this year’s turnout since only eight local residents attended the 2009 ceremony at the courthouse.
