BIDWELL — The fire that broke out on Saturday, March 13 at Gallia Metro Estates, 381 Buck Ridge Road, Bidwell has been ruled as arson.

According to the Ohio State Fire Marshal’s Office, two 12-year-old juveniles have been arrested in connection with the fire. One of the juveniles has been charged with aggravated arson, while the other juvenile has been charged with complicity to commit arson.

The fire reportedly started in a storage unit in the rear of the complex and moved to the attic of the main apartment building.

There were no injuries reported.

Both Gallipolis and Rio Grande Volunteer Fire Departments, along with Gallia County EMS and Gallia County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the fire that happened around 3:43 p.m. on March 13.

“This incident should serve to remind citizens that no fire is harmless,” said a representative of the State Fire Marshal’s Office. “Every fire has the potential to be deadly or to cause serious damage to a structure.”

In addition, parents are encouraged to remind children of every age about the dangers of fire and to educate older children on the consequences that accompany playing with fire, which can lead to burns, irreparable damage to a home or building, arrest or worse.
