GALLIPOLIS — A notice of appeal has been filed on behalf of Brynn K. Martin regarding his June conviction on one count of robbery.
Martin, 30, Bidwell, was acquitted by jurors on charges of murder, aggravated murder, and aggravated robbery in connection with the 2006 slaying of Vinton-area resident William “Wild Bill” Sowers following a three-day trial held in Gallia County Common Pleas Court over the summer. He was convicted of robbery and eventually sentenced to serve eight years in prison.
His estranged wife, Odessa L. Martin, 37, Bidwell, is currently serving a four-year sentence for burning blood stained clothing allegedly worn by her husband the night of Sowers’ death.
Odessa Martin was convicted following a one-day trial in common pleas court during which the majority of the state’s case consisted of a taped interview between she and Det. Chad Wallace.
Prosecutors were unable to play the interview during Brynn Martin’s trial and the state presented no physical evidence placing inside Sowers’ residence during the timeframe that he was murdered. The closest to Sowers’ home that witness testimony during the trial placed Martin was outside of his residence in a car.
The certification of time allotted for transmittal of record filed regarding Martin’s case was recently extended by the trial court to Feb. 17.
