Blue Devils end 3-game skid, beat Jackson 45-37

JACKSON — The Gallia Academy Blue Devils ended a three game losing skid on Tuesday evening, as they defeated the Jackson Ironmen 45-37.

The win also gave Gallia Academy (5-6) their second league victory of the season. The Blue Devils led at the end of the first quarter, and did not retake the lead until the 7:26 mark in the fourth quarter.

The Blue Devils lead 10-9 at the end of the first quarter, but Jackson came back to outscore Gallia Academy 9-5 in the second quarter to take a 18-15 half time lead.

Jackson took their largest lead of the night at the 5:25 mark in the third quarter with a 25-20 score. Gallia Academy tied the game up at the end of the third quarter at 29.

Just 34 seconds into the final quarter of play, John Troester made a two point shot to give the Blue Devils their first lead of the second half. There would be a total of three lead changes and one tie in the fourth quarter of the game. Gallia Academy took the lead again at 33-32 after two free throws from Ethan Moore. An Andrew Christman putback allowed Jackson to tie the game up at 35 with 3:37 remaining in the contest.

The Blue Devils went on a 10-2 run after the tie to win by a final of 45-37. Gallia Academy was 10 for 12 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter, with Moore going 6 for 6, and Jordan Cornwell 3 for 4.

Troester was 7 of 7 from two point range in the contest an lead all scorers with 14 points. Moore scored nine points, Cornwell added eight, Jared Golden had seven, Chuck Calvert scored three, and Corey Eberhard and Bryce Amos each had two points.

The Ironmen were led by Dylan Newsom with 12 points.

Gallia Academy returns to the court on Friday evening as they host Marietta at 6 p.m.
