Blue Devils fall to Portsmouth, 58-55

PORTSMOUTH — Leading by as many as 10 in the first half, the Gallia Academy Blue Devils looked as if they would get their second league win on Tuesday evening at Portsmouth (5-3, 4-1 SEOAL), but were unable to withstand the second half charge of the Trojans.

Gallia Academy (4-5, 1-4 SEOAL) lead 12-6 after the first quarter, and with each team scoring 14 in the second period, the Blue Devils led 26-20 at the half.

The Trojans took their first lead of the game in the third quarter, as they outscored Gallia Academy 19-12 in the period. Portsmouth took a one point advantage into the final quarter of play. Portsmouth again scored 19 points in the fourth, and held the Blue Devils to 17 points to secure the three point victory.

Gallia Academy was led in scoring in the contest by Jordan Cornwell and Chuck Calvert with 14 points each. John Troester added 12 points, Ethan Moore scored seven points, Jared Golden and Cory Eberhard each added three points, and Austin Wilson scored two points.

Portsmouth was led by Forrest Johnson with 24 points. Wayne Evans scored 14 points, Tre Underwood added 11 points, London Malone had eight points, and Adam Bray scored one point.

Gallia Academy returns to the court on Friday as they face Warren (5-3, 1-3 SEOAL), at Gallia Academy High School, in a SEOAL matchup beginning at 6 p.m.
