Lady Marauders outlast Wahama

ROCKSPRINGS — The Meigs Lady Marauders made it five straight victories with a 62-47 win over the Wahama Lady Falcons on Tuesday evening.

The Lady Marauders jumped out to an early 8-1 lead in the first quarter, and led Wahama by a score of 24-7 after one quarter of play.

Meigs continued to lead the way, outscoring the Lady Falcons 12-10 in the second quarter to lead by a half time score of 36-17.

The Lady Falcons came out strong in the third quarter, holding Meigs to seven points. Wahama was able to put 12 points on the board to cut the Lady Marauders’ lead to 14.

Meigs and Wahama were fairly even in the fourth quarter, with Meigs outscoring the Lady Falcons by one. The Lady Marauders won by a score of 62-47.

Tricia Smith led the way for the Lady Marauders with 15 points. Morgan Howard added 14 points and 14 rebounds, Shanalle Smith scored nine points, Miranda Grueser added eight points, Micki Barnes had six points, Chandra Stanley added four points, and Alaine Arnold, Emalee Glass, and Kelsey Shuler each scored two points.

Howard led the team in rebounds with 14 followed by Stanley with six. Grueser led in steals with four. VanMeter led in assists with four.

The Lady Falcons were led in scoring by Taylor Hysell with 19 points. Alex Wood added 12 points, Karista Ferguson had nine points, Katie Davis scored four points, and Kelsey Zuspan had three.

The Lady Marauders were 13-14 from the free throw line, while the Lady Falcons were 11-16.

The Lady Marauders also won the two quarter JV contest by a score of 24-6. Meigs was led in scoring by Dani Cullums and Emily Kinnan with six points each. Wahama was led by Paige Gardner with four points.

The Lady Marauders are now 5-2 on the season while the Lady Falcons drop to 3-2.

Meigs returns to the court on Jan. 4, as they travel to face the Eastern Lady Eagles.

The Lady Falcons will play Saturday in the Championship game of the Wahama Holiday Tournament at 8 p.m. against Point Pleasant.
