GALLIPOLIS — Armed robberies were plentiful over the holiday weekend in Gallia County, adding to the spree committed over the last several weeks and certainly indicating a sign of hard times.

The Silver Star gas station in Crown City was robbed at approximately 8:20 p.m. Friday, Long John Silvers in the Silver Bridge Plaza around 5:20 p.m. on Saturday, and Pizza Plus in Spring Valley at approximately 7:50 p.m. on Sunday.

Police are now seeking multiple suspects in the recent rash of hold-ups as two white males were pinpointed in the Crown City robbery and a female was identified in the Long John Silvers robbery. Suspects in all prior robberies were described as white males, early to mid-twenties, approximately six-feet tall, thin to medium built, usually wearing something over his face and brandishing a knife.

The Crown City suspects were described as mid-20s, 6-feet and 5-feet-10 inches tall, respectively, wearing a black hoodie and mask and a brown hoodie, white bandana, and mask, respectively. One of the two was said to be armed with a large knife and they reportedly took four to five cartons of cigarettes and an undisclosed amount of money before forcing the attendant into the restroom.

The female suspected in the Long John Silvers robbery was described as being in her early 20s, wearing a ball cap, brown coat over a hoodie, and sunglasses. According to the Gallipolis Police Department, the woman entered the store, told an employee she had gun and demanded the contents of the register before fleeing the area with an undetermined amount of money.

The Pizza Plus suspect was described as a white male standing between 5-feet-9 and 6-feet tall, weighing between 180 to 200 pounds with light brown hair, wearing a ball cap, camoflauge jacket, jeans and boots with a white cloth material covering his mouth and nose areas, according to the Gallia County Sheriff’s Office. He reportedly walked into the restaurant, brandished a knife, threatened an employee and demanded money.

Apparently, a scuffle ensued between the suspect and the Pizza Plus worker and the suspect ended up fleeing with money and the employee’s gun in an older model gray SUV that contained another male and exited onto Jackson Pike towards Ohio 588.

In total, seven armed robberies have been reported in Gallia County since Nov. 14. Other businesses held up include the Dollar General in Gallipolis, the Spring Valley Marathon, Brown’s Market on Ohio 160, and the Par Mar (Exxon) in Gallipolis. In addition, the Point Pleasant Food Mart, located in the Exxon station in Point Pleasant, W.Va., was robbed at knifepoint by a white male wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt with a white cloth covering his face on Nov. 21.

A man was arrested in connection with the robbery of the Dollar General, however all other suspects remain at large.
