Knife-wielding bandit strikes in Mason Co.
POINT PLEASANT, W.Va. — Point Pleasant Police are looking for a man who robbed a local convenience store at knifepoint over the weekend.
Point Pleasant Police Chief Ernie Watterson said the Point Pleasant Food Mart, located in the Exxon station at 2200 Jackson Ave., was robbed at 9:50 p.m. Saturday. The hold-up man is described as a white male who was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt. He also had a white cloth covering his face.
The man brandished a knife and proceeded to demand that the cashier give him money. Watterson said that the cashier complied, and once given the money, the man exited the store.
“We are at this time not sure of the amount of money taken,” Watterson said. “No one was hurt. Once the cashier gave the man the money it was a very quick action — he was in and out basically.”
According to Watterson, the police are currently reviewing security camera footage of the incident. At this time the robbery is still under investigation.
“If someone has information on the robbery call the police department,” he said. “We are currently working with the Gallia County police department because they have had some robberies recently in the area. We are seeing if there is any connection.”
Since Saturday, Nov. 14, four stores in Gallia County have been robbed by individuals wielding knives. An individual who allegedly robbed the Dollar General Store in Downtown Gallipolis is being held in the Gallia County Jail.
However, robberies that occurred at the Spring Valley Marathon on Jackson Pike, Brown’s Market on Ohio 160 and the Par Mar store at the corner of Third Ave. and Vine St. in Gallipolis are still under investigation.
Watterson encouraged area businesses to be safe and aware of potential dangers.
“I want to caution our businesses in town to keep an eye out and make sure that they are protected with security cameras and to not keep a lot of cash in their register,” he said. “If you see anything suspicious call the police department.”
