Lowell B. “Bernie” Burnside, 78, Gallipolis, passed away at 11:05 a.m. Monday, Sept. 28, 2009, in the Holzer Medical Center.

Born March 5, 1931, in Gary, Ind., he was the son of the late Berlin and Mary Clark Burnside. He was a retired firefighter from the City of Gary Fire Department. He was also a licensed realtor in Indiana, a U.S. Army veteran and a member of the Calvary Church in Charlotte, N.C.

Surviving is his wife, Barbara A. Cooper Fulks Burnside; a step-daughter, Tina (Shawn) Baker, Middleport; a step-son, Bryan Lee (Louann) Fulks, Virginia Beach, Va.; step-grandson, Nicholas Donovan Fulks; daughter, Laura Burnside; son, William Lowell (Sally) Burnside, all of Charlotte, N.C.; two grandchildren, Ashley Burnside and Cameron Burnside; sister, Dr. K. Imogene Jones, Dallas, Texas; nephew, Dr. Clark Jones, Dallas, Texas; and cousins, Gary and Joanna Congrove, Jackson, Bill and Joyce Miller, Wheelersburg, Virginia Wolfe, Wellston, Leon Caulley, Wellston, and Rita Tewksbury, Warren, Ohio.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, 2009, in the Cremeens Funeral Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Terry Cavanaugh. Interment will be in the Mound Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 6-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral chapel.
