Southern travels to Green

FRANKLIN FURNACE — The Southern Tornadoes football team travels to Franklin Furnace on Friday to face the Green Bobcats in a matchup of 2-2 teams.

The non-conference game has Southern looking for its third victory in a row after defeating South Gallia (0-4) and Hannan (0-4) over the previous two weeks.

Southern scored a season high 40 points in last weeks game against Hannan, while Green was shutout last week against Grove City Christian.

On the season, Southern has allowed 90 points while only scoring 86 points. Southern’s loses have come at the hands of Symmes Valley (3-1) and Wahama (4-0).

Green has been outscored 60-111 in their four contests this season. Green has had victories against Manchester (0-4) and Hannan (0-4), while losing to Fort Frye (4-0) and Grove City Christian (4-0).

In the previous three games between the two schools, Green holds the advantage 2-1, with Southern winning the most recent contest, in 2008, by a score of 31-14.

Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Green High School in Franklin Furnace.

Raiders seek first win, travel to Waterford

WATERFORD — The River Valley Raiders football team (0-4) will travel to Waterford to face the Wildcats (1-3).

River Valley looks for their first win of the season against Waterford who has not won since their opener against South Gallia (0-4).

Both teams have been outscored by their opponents on the season. River Valley has been outscored 13-160. Waterford has been outscored 35-90, and has only put up 13 points since week one.

Last week, Waterford put up six points in the first quarter on a short touchdown run by Levi Porter and was held scoreless the remainder of the game.

River Valley’s lone score in last week’s contest was on a second quarter run by Tyler Smith.

River Valley and Waterford have faced off the past two seasons, splitting the games. River Valley won in 2008, 27-7, while Waterford won in 2007, 39-14.

The non-league contest will kickoff Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. at Waterford High School.

Rebels travel to face Portsmouth Notre Dame, seek first victory

PORTSMOUTH — The South Gallia Rebels take their quest for a victory on the road this week with a game against Portsmouth Notre Dame (1-3).

The Rebels, who have not played on the road since week one, are going for their first victory of the season are going up against a Notre Dame squad who have not won since week one.

The Rebels were held scoreless in last week’s game against Wahama, after putting up six points in each of the previous three contests. On the season, South Gallia has put up 18 points while allowing 94 points.

Notre Dame is coming off last week’s shutout loss at Bishop Rosecrans. For the season, Notre Dame has scored 57 points to the 114 points they have allowed.

This will be the third consecutive season the Rebels and Titans have squared off with Notre Dame winning both cotests by a combined score of 85-24.

Kickoff at Spartan Stadium in Portsmouth is set for 7:30 p.m. Saturday evening.
