GAHS golf fends off Chesapeake, RVHS

GALLIPOLIS — It was close, but the Gallia Academy golf team stayed unbeaten at home Tuesday after posting a one shot victory over Chesapeake during a golf tri-match with River Valley at Cliffside Golf Club in Gallia County.

The Blue Devils posted a team score of 167, edging out the visiting Panthers’ tally of 168 by one stroke. The Raiders finished third overall with a team total of 207.

GAHS had all six golfers fire rounds of 46 or under, while the Panthers had six golfers fire rounds under 50. RVHS had only one golfer shoot a sub-50 round at the par 36 front 9 section.

There were three medalists on the day with matching scores of 40. Boeing Smith was the lone Blue Devil in that group, while the CHS duo of Seth Waggoner and Nathan Copley completed the tri-medalist group.

After Smith, the Blue Devils were led by Rob Canady with a 41 and Nick Saunders with a 42. Jordan Cornwell rounded out the scoring with a 44. Warren Patrick and Corey Hamilton also had respective rounds of 45 and 46.

RVHS was led by Dan Goodrich with a 45, followed by Kyle Bryant with 50 and Derek Gibson with 54. Matt Ball rounded out the Raiders’ scoring with a 58. Chris Goodrich and Cody Smith also had respective efforts of 59 and 71.

Chesapeake also had scores of 43 and 45 from Gunner Hill and Seth Ransbottom. Roger Hoback and Nick Duffield also finished the day with 48 and 49.

Southern splits a pair of matches

POMEROY — The Southern Tornadoes golf team was 1-1 this week losing to Waterford on Monday before beating Miller on Tuesday.

Southern tallied a team score of 192 losing to Waterford’s 164. Southern’s team was lead by Nathan Roush, who shot a 44. Others adding to Southern’s team total were Kris Kleski with a 46, Taylor Deem with a 50, and Andrew Roseberry with a 52.

Other golfers for Southern were Cyle Rees shooting a 57 and Dyllan Roush with a 67.

Waterford’s Brandyn Offenberger took home medalist honors shooting the low round of 39. His teammate Kyle Allen was runner-up shooting a round of 40.

On Tuesday evening, Southern was victorious beating Miller 169 to 229. Taylor Deem took medalist honors for the event shooting a low round of 36. Teammate Andrew Roseberry was runner-up with a round of 41.

Other rounds for Southern included Cyle Rees with a round of 45, Nathan Roush shooting a 47, and Colby Roseberry and Kris Kleski with matching rounds of 51.

The top round for Miller was Dakota McGill’s 52.

Southern next faces off against Eastern tonight at Pine Hills Golf Course.
