GALLIPOLIS — Gallia voters can make their choices at the polls this Nov. 3 following Thursday’s filing deadline for township trustee, village council, school board, and city commission candidates.

Cadidates by race are as follows:

Township Trustees (two to be elected per township)

Addison: Fred F. Burneet, Gallipolis, J.P. Roberts, Jr., Gallipolis, Robert G. Rothgeb, Gallipolis.

Cheshire: Michael R. Conkle, Cheshire, J.D. Taylor, Cheshire, Joe Dean Roush, Cheshire.

Clay: Bobby A. Franklin, Gallipolis, Dale R. Fife, Gallipolis, Ray Slone, Crown City.

Gallipolis: Richard M. Bane, Gallipolis, Harry Dean Brownell, Gallipolis, C. Ronnie Carmichael, Gallipolis.

All candidates have been approved except for Roger Watson, Guyan Township, whose candidacy is being disputed over his residential address. A hearing on the matter is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Local issues (five year terms)

911: Continuation of a tax of one-quarter of one percent sales tax for the purpose of operating Gallia County 911.

Council on Aging: Replacement of a tax not to exceed five-tenths of a mill per $1 for the purpose of operating the Gallia County Council on Aging.

Walnut Township: Renewal of a tax not to exceed one mill per $1 for fire protection.

Huntington Township: Renewal of a tax not to exceed one year per $1 for fire protection.

Morgan Township: Renewal of a tax not to exceed one year per $1 for fire protection.

Raccoon Township: Replacement of a tax not to exceed four-tenths of a mill per $1 for fire protection.

The deadline for write-in candidates to file a declaration of intent is Sept. 2, 62 days prior to the Nov. 3 election. Oct. 5 is the last day for voters to register. Absentee ballots can be found at the Gallia County Board of Elections, online at www.gallianet.net, or at the secretary of state’s website.
