GALLIPOLIS — A former Little League coach accused of molesting young boys has been indicted by a Gallia County grand jury and freed on bond.

Robert H. Erwin, 67, Gallipolis, has been charged with one count of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor for allegedly engaging in sexual conduct with a 13-year-old male between April 22 and May 22, 2009. Erwin was 66 at the time of the alleged incident.

He pled not guilty to the charge in Gallia County Common Pleas Court and was released on his own recognizance under a $15,000 bond, with an additional bond set at $1,000 ten percent secured.

Special terms and conditions of Erwin’s bond maintain that he shall have electronic monitoring through Gallipolis Municipal Court, have no minors at his residence, and have no contact with the alleged victim.

Erwin was also ordered to have no contact with 11 additional alleged victims for the duration of this matter.

Court records indicate that grand jurors initially charged Erwin with two additional counts each of rape and sexual battery, but those charges were dismissed at the request of the state, to be refiled at a later date.

Erwin was arrested on May 22 following allegations of molestation dating back to 1987, when he was a youth athletic league coach. Victims who have since come forward were between the ages of 11 and 13 when the alleged offenses occurred.

According to records carried over from Gallipolis Municipal Court, victims reported to law enforcement that Erwin touched and had other inappropriate contact with them. One victim also claimed that Erwin took nude photographs of him.

Erwin is being represented by Gallipolis attorney William N. Eachus. His jury trial is tentatively scheduled for Nov. 16 at 9 a.m.
