Dear Editor:
Two thumbs up to the residents of Gallia County for their superb participation in the National Association of Letter Carriers food drive held May 9, 2009. This food drive, now in its 17th year, takes place across the United States. Gallipolis city and rural carriers took to the streets on May 9, not knowing quite what to expect. An unbelievable outcome was accomplished.
The carriers collected 3,344 pounds of food that was donated to the Grace United Methodist Church food pantry. Hats off to all of the Gallipolis city and rural carriers, along with clerks for a job well done.
Many, many thanks to all residents who participated. Those not able to participate, but wanting to make a donation, can drop off food at Grace United Methodist Church, 600 Second Ave., or a donation can be made payable to Grace United Methodist Church food pantry.
Special thanks to Susie and John McClintock (NALC president) who organized and donated many hours to the events, along with Bradley and Vanessa Cummings, who spent the day collecting and arranging the food for delivery to the pantry.
Thanks again to all for supporting the needs of our community.
Henry Vallette,
Postmaster,
Gallipolis Post Office
