Blue Angels win 12th consecutive decision against Jackson

GALLIPOLIS — Once, twice, three times the ladies of Gallia Academy have defeated the Ironladies of Jackson. Wednesday night marked the third consecutive postseason in which the Blue Angels have faced the Jackson squad and the third consective year in which they defeated them. The contest also marked the 12th straight win the Blue Angels have had against the Ironladies with their last loss to Jackson occuring in 2006 in the sectional tournament.

Wednesday night’s seven inning game ended in the 8-3 victory for Gallia Academy with the weather holding off just in time for the Blue Angels to secure their win.

The contest started off slowly with a blank scoreboard after the first inning. With two strikeouts by Gallia’s Amy Noe, the Blue Angels held the Ironladies from advancing who returned the favor to Gallia Academ, holding them from scoring.

The Blue Angels sent Kassie Day home in the second inning with a single by Calyssa Mayes who made her first of two RBI’s in the contest. Defensively, the Blue Angels held the Ironladies again at zero runs, with one strikeout by Noe and the solid coverage of the Gallia defense.

The Blue Angels added another run in the third with Courtney Shriver coming home after hitting a double that put her on base. As with the other two innings, Gallia Academy held Jackson from advancing.

The fourth inning marked a scoring frenzy for the Blue Angels who racked up six runs in the inning with Kimber Davis, Brittyn Saunders, Alli Saunders, Mattie Lanham, and Day crossing the plate. Shriver sent in two of her teammates and herself in the inning after hitting a homerun.

The Ironladies were able to get in two runs during that inning with Jackson’s Devan Kearns and Ericka Danver crossing homeplate for their squad.

Jackson was able to get one more run in the sixth inning, bringing their total to three runs to Gallia Academy’s eight. From the fifth inning on the Blue Angels maintained their eight run total.

The ladies of Gallia Academy’s solid team effort proved enough to secure their lead and the victory over the Ironladies of Jackson.

The Blue Angels will host Athens on Saturday in hopes of claiming the sectional final, starting at 1 p.m.
