He was born June 24, 1941, in Gallia County, son of the late Clinton and Beulah Birchfield Lewis. He was a farmer and truck driver most of his life, and loved hunting and fishing.
Surviving are his four children, Cheryl Cook (Keith Day), Mary (Bill) Saxon, William Edward Lewis Jr. and Jonathan Lewis, all of Gallipolis; four stepchildren, Becky Klien, of Gallipolis, Nancy (Mike) Colony of Canada, Dencil (Cindy) Hudson of Minersville, Virgil (Johnna) Hudson of Pomeroy; four grandchildren, Vanessa (Eric) Newheart and Amanda Saxon, both of Gallipolis, William C. (Christina Likens) Saxon of Gallipolis Ferry, W.Va. and Gabriel Lewis, of Gallipolis; eight step grandchildren, Stephanie and Leeann Hudson of Minersville, Rebecca and Thomas Klien of Gallipolis, Isaiah and Noah Hudson of Pomeroy, D.J. and Nathan Laudermilt of New Haven, W.Va.; and several great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Delores Lewis; and a granddaughter, Kyanna Lewis.
Services will be 1 p.m. on Friday, May 15, 2009, at the Willis Funeral Home officiated by Rev. Mark Williams. Burial will follow in Dickey Chapel Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Virgil Hudson, Dencil Hudson, Bill H. Saxon, Keith Day, Bill C. Saxon, and William Lewis Jr. Honorary pallbearer will be Vince Laudermilt.
