She was born July 5, 1908, to Robert and Clara Barcus in Ohio Township, Gallia County.
She was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a member of the Providence Missionary Baptist Church.
Norma was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Frank; a son, Leo James; a grandson, Bruce James; a daughter-in-law, Jo Ann James; and two sons-in-law, Charles Beach and George Violand.
She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Harold Barcus, Homer Barcus and Harry Barcus; and three sisters, Goldie Hutchinson, Nola Spurlock, Mildred Sanders and Emogene Day.
She is survived by two daughters, Charlotte Beach of Vinton, and Joyce Violand of Crown City, and three sons, Marlin (Pat) James of Gallipolis, Carl James of Crown City, and Don (Nancy) James of Gallipolis.
She is also survived by grandchildren: Marlene (Mike) Blazer, Christine (Gary) Hartman, Steve (Tammy) James, Brent (Tami) James, Brice (Teddi) James, Carla (Bill) Swisher, Kristy (Tim) Huffman, Chuck Beach, Ron Beach, Patty Beach, Lesa (Bill) Lemley, Linda (Mike) Fraley, Vance Violand, Terry (Shelly) James and Kelly (Terri) James; 24 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren; a special nephew, Charles Barcus; and several stepgrandchildren and step-great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 13, 2009, at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home, with funeral services at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, 2009, and interment in Ohio Valley Memory Gardens.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.
