GALLIPOLIS — Gallia County Commissioners passed two motions pertaining to the Kanauga/Addison sanitary sewer during their regular meeting Thursday, concluding the county’s requirements on the project.
If everything goes as planned, the bid opening could be held as early as May 7.
The commission passed a motion approving a bond counsel engagement letter from Peck, Shaffer & Williams out of Columbus for provision of all bond counsel services for the K/A sewer bond in the amount of $1,862,000 at a cost of no more than $9,651. This fee will be paid from the project funding already secured, according to the county administrator.
In addition, the commission passed a motion to approve and sign the USDA right-of-way certificate for the project, which completed the county’s requirements.
Gallia now has to properly advertise for bids before the opening can be held and construction on the project is expected to begin shortly thereafter.
In other action, commissioners:
• Approved and signed two police protection contracts submitted by Gallia County Sheriff Joe Browning for the villages of Crown City and Vinton.
According to the contracts, the sheriff’s office is to supply a qualified deputy to each village, which will in turn pay the deputy an hourly rate along with unemployment, Medicare, workers compensation and OPERS. The villages also agree to pay an hourly contract rate directly to the sheriff’s office to be used for expenses and maintenance of the sheriff’s cruiser and the training of officers along with uniforms and equipment.
If a deputy is requested to respond to a 911 call at a time when an officer is not on duty in the village, an available deputy will be dispatched to the call. All deputies covering village assignments are to follow the Gallia County Sheriff’s Office Policy and Procedure Manual, according to the agreement.
• Passed a motion granting Gallia County Department of Job and Family Services Director Dana Glassburn permission to sign a rental agreement for a wheelchair accessible van for the purpose providing transportation for Medicaid individuals in the county.
To fund the service, GCDJFS will be able to draw money from a state allocation for Medicaid. The commissioners also authorized Glassburn to pay a deposit for the van in the amount of $2,105.
• Passed a motion to accept a quote from Nuko Inc. in the amount of $7,756 for the resealing of the parking lot that serves Gallia County 911 and the Gallia County Senior Center at the request of 911 Director Steve Wilson.
The proposal includes the clean up of debris, weeds and any other obstructions from the area and the repair of existing cracks in the asphalt, along with resealing the entire lot with two coats of sealer, repairing a trench dug for a water line extending to the sanitation building, and repainting the markings on the lot.
• Approved and signed an amendment form for the 2009 Youth Services Grant/510 Allocation and 2009 Tentative Variable Allocation as submitted by Juvenile Court Administrator Greg Shrader.
According to the animal shelter report for the week ending on April 5, one dog was adopted, four were euthanized, and 14 were rescued.
