POMEROY — A Portland woman was indicted Thursday for the aggravated murder of her husband.

Meigs County Prosecuting Attorney Colleen S. Williams filed a single-count indictment for aggravated murder against Paula S. Rizer, 52, Portland, in Meigs County Common Pleas Court.

Rizer was first charged Saturday with a single count of murder in Meigs County Court, and appeared before Judge Steven L. Story Monday.

The grand jury’s indictment against Rizer includes the specification that Rizer had a firearm on or about her person or under her control while committing the offense and displayed the firearm, brandished the firearm, indicated that she possessed the firearm, or used the firearm to facilitate the offense of aggravated murder.

Rizer’s husband, Kenny Rizer Sr., died as the result of five gunshot wounds to the chest on April 3, according to Sheriff Robert Beegle.

Beegle said there are few known details of the events leading up to the shooting at the Rizer home on Lovett Road, but said there were no reports of domestic violence at the address.

Paula Rizer remains housed in the Washington County Jail in Marietta on a half-million dollar cash bond.

He said his department has no record of any domestic disturbances in the past between the Rizers, and said Rizer has provided no details about the shooting or a motive.

Rizer has retained Pomeroy attorney Christopher Tenoglia to represent her, but Tenoglia said Monday Rizer will likely request his court appointment as her attorney.
