GALLIPOLIS — Local law enforcement arrested a Crown City man after a search of his residence allegedly turned up a large amount of Oxycontin tablets and cash.

The Gallia County Sheriff’s Office executed the search with assistance from the Gallipolis Municipal Court probation staff at the residence of Troy L. Jarrell, 69, 2785 Bladen Road, on Tuesday afternoon. They reportedly seized approximately $14,000 cash and 28 Oxycontin tablets as well as drug paraphernalia.

The sheriff’s office issued a be on the lookout around 3:20 p.m. Shortly before 4 p.m., a State Highway Patrol trooper caught up with Jarrell on Ohio 7 at Bladen’s Landing, but not before the suspect’s vehicle reportedly backed into his cruiser. According to the patrol, no damage was done to either vehicle and an accident report will not be filed.

However, upon arresting Jarrell, police reportedly located more Oxycontin, a firearm, and a food stamp card that did not belong to him.

Jarrell was housed in the Gallia County Jail, and drug possession and trafficking charges are pending at the Gallia County Prosecutor’s Office. The sheriff’s office added that forfeitures on property and vehicles are also expected.

In Gallia County Common Pleas Court last week, Jarrell pled guilty to one count of attempted illegal use of food stamps, a misdemeanor and a lesser offense than illegal use of food stamps for which he was initially charged regarding a card belonging to Leechona Clagg.

Pursuant to the plea agreement, one count of unlawful possession of a dangerous weapon, regarding a .410 shotgun with a ten-inch barrel, was dismissed.

Jarrell was ordered to pay a $1,000 fine and forfeit $2,136 to the Gallia County Prosecutor’s Law Enforcement Trust Fund and any firearms seized were to be destroyed.
