ONA, W.Va. — The Point Pleasant boys basketball team needed four additional minutes, but the Big Blacks made the most of that extra time Saturday night during a 65-62 overtime victory over host Cabell Midland in a non-conference matchup in Cabell County.

The visiting Big Blacks (8-9) overcame a nine-point deficit headed into the fourth quarter by going on a 21-12 surge over the final eight minutes of regulation, then rode that momentum by using a 13-10 run in the extra session to secure a season sweep over the Knights.

Point Pleasant — which has now won three straight and seven of its last eight contests — also posted a 56-52 victory at PPHS back on December 22.

Both teams found themselves tied at 12 after eight minutes of play, but Cabell Midland (5-13) answered with a 13-9 second quarter run to claim a 25-21 edge headed into the intermission. The hosts followed with a 15-10 surge in the third canto, which gave CMHS a 40-31 lead headed into the finale.

Point Pleasant sank 11-of-12 free throw attempts in the fourth period, and a Dillon McCarty trifecta just before the buzzer allowed the guests to overcome their three-possession deficit and force overtime after ending regulation tied at 42.

PPHS — which made only nine field goals after the intermission — made 8-of-12 charity tosses in the extra session, which aided in the 13-10 run that ultimately allowed the Big Blacks to sneak away with the triumph.

Dillon McCarty led the Big Blacks with a game-high 22 points, 15 of which came after halftime. Aden Yates and Wade Martin were next with 13 points each, while Alex Somerville chipped in 10 markers to the winning cause.

Andrew Williamson and Marquez Griffin rounded out the winning score with five points and two markers, respectively. The guests were 31-of-40 at the free throw line for 78 percent.

Brad Bickford paced Cabell Midland with 15 points, followed by Niles Dailey with 11 points and Sawyer Beckett with 10 markers.
