SUMMERSVILLE, W.Va. — After dropping 10 consecutive decisions, the Hannan boys basketball team has now won two of its last three contests after claiming a 53-47 victory over Union in the third place game of the West Virginia Hometown Invitational Tournament held Friday night at Nicholas County High School.

The visiting Wildcats (4-16) picked up their first win of the season against a team not named Van, and Hannan did so with an impressive third quarter charge that turned a five-point halftime deficit into a two-possession advantage headed into the finale.

The host Tigers (12-5) jumped out to a 13-9 lead after eight minutes of play, then made a small 13-12 second quarter run to secure a 26-21 edge headed into the intermission.

The Wildcats, however, went on a 17-6 surge out of halftime, allowing HHS to claim a 38-32 lead headed into the fourth. Both teams traded 15 points apiece down the stretch, which gave Hannan its second win in five days and third place overall in the WVHIT.

Paul Holley led HHS with a game-high 18 points, followed by Brad Fannin with 13 points and Tyler Burns with eight markers. Kade McCoy and Ty Paige were next with six points apiece, while Tyler Jenkins rounded out the scoring with two markers.

Hannan hit four trifectas in the triumph and also went 11-of-16 at the free throw line for 69 percent.

Travis Murphy paced Union with 16 points, followed by Nathaniel Evans with seven points and Brandon Streets with six markers.
