Vandalism knocks out phone service

GALLPOLIS — Vandalism and attempted theft caused more than 500 residents to be without phone service on Wednesday morning in Gallia County.

According to the Gallia County Sheriff’s Office, deputies reported early Wednesday morning that an unknown person or persons damaged a pole located on Ohio 160 near the intersection with Bulaville Pike Road — a pole that was carrying a phone line.

The incident reportedly occurred at approximately 3:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning and affected customers between Ohio 160 and Oil Hollow Road and the intersection of Ohio 554.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies are continuing to investigate the incident.

Reportedly, AT&T crews were on scene Wednesday making repairs and restoring service to customers.
