As of Thursday, Gallipolis City Manager Randy Finney expressed his anticipation of a February move for the administrative offices into the new facility located in the 300 block of Third Avenue.
Construction on the facility that will house the administrative offices for the City of Gallipolis, including the utility office, auditor’s offices, city manager’s office and tax office, and will also include exterior public restrooms, began in late August following a groundbreaking ceremony held by city officials.
GALLIPOLIS — With sunny skies and fair weather early this week, work on the landscape surrounding the nearly completed Gallipolis Municipal Building began in earnest.
Gallipolis City Manager Randy Finney reported during a special city commission meeting last Thursday that the interior of the facility is nearing completion as plumbing is being executed alongside the remainder of the drywall work as painting begins and the new ceiling tiles are hung.
“Everything is coming along fairly well,” Finney said.
During the meeting, Finney also reported on his hope that the outside or ground work surrounding the building would begin this week and that the subcontractor in charge of that portion of the building would take advantage of the break in winter weather — a hope that was evidently fulfilled as workers and equipment could be seen by passersby outside of the “admin” building on Tuesday afternoon.

Hoon, Inc., a general contractor based in Athens, was awarded the bid for the work after they presented a low bid of $794,450 to the commission in July — a bid approximately $90,000 under the engineer’s estimate for the project.
Since construction began, only one change order has been presented for the project and was approved by the commission on December 18.
The change order, in the amount of $17,548.75, is for “excavation work and electrical service” as worded in the change order passed by the commission.
As of Thursday, the city manager expressed his anticipation of a February move for the administrative offices into the new facility located in the 300 block of Third Avenue.
“It will probably be sometime — I’m guessing — in the second or third week in February before we actually get to move into it,” he said. “Everything looks really good so far.”
