Dr. Gellman-Danley addressed Rotarians on the subject of leadership skills and the importance of lifetime learning. Rotarians received some advice in the important leadership skills offered by our speaker. “First, never put your personal agenda before your organization’s agenda,” offered Dr. Gellman-Danley. “Surround yourself with strong leaders in your organization, but don’t be afraid to make changes in the organizational structure,” she continued. Our speaker emphasized the value of transparency and honesty in leading the organization. She emphasized the importance of compromise, but never compromise one’s own values. Our speaker covered a total of 17 valuable leadership skills detailed from an earlier publication, but which still apply today. Dr. Gellman-Danley concluded with strong advice to anyone in a leadership position to always balance one’s professional and personal life and to always value your employees and their families.
Club President, Jodie McCalla, welcomed assembled Rotarians and guests to the meeting today. Our room was nearly full as we had a number of special guests with us today including Rotarian emeritus Don and Alvira Robinson, as well as visitors Aaron Rykowski, from OVB; Loralee Carmichael, from Western & Southern Life, and our speaker, Dr. Barbara Gellman-Danley. VP/President-Elect Chuck Clark provided our invocation. President Jodie announced there would be a short board meeting right after today’s meeting.
Group Study Exchange—President Jodie announced our club has been contacted by DG Mike Brown to see if our club would be interested in hosting the In-bound GSE group from Peru expected in April, 2013. While we have some time to consider this request, the opportunity to host a GSE group provides visiting professionals a glimpse into life in our community. Please consider this opportunity for our club.
Split-The-Pot—Chuck Clark and Lee Saltzgaber both shared the STP responsibility for our meeting today selling a good number of 3-for-$2’s raising our small pot to a respectable $7.00. Lee asked our guest speaker to draw for the lucky winner which was visitor, Aaron Rykowski! In the draw for the ‘big one’ of $47.00, Aaron came up with the ace of spades! The Foundation Fine was assessed against anyone who was NOT a new member! Excellent one!
Fellowship—Gordon Amsbary offered up our club fellowship moments today opening with only two words (which were actually three) 10 and 0! Most OSU fans would agree. Gordo offered a few law facts and then announced that today was “National End Gossip Day” and “International Tongue Twister Day.” After covering celebrity birthdays and some history trivia, Gordon also mentioned that this week is “National Synergy Week.” He closed with a few words of wisdom.
Happy Buck$--There were a number of bucks offered up at today’s meeting. Jenny Evans bought a buck in celebration of passing the bar exam and starting her law practice! Jim Morrison offered a dollar in honor of the new city Justice Center building and the beautiful new courtroom. Sammy Lopez offered a buck for the apprehension of some recent newspaper thieves! PDG Mel Simon offered his bucks for President Gellman-Danley’s visit today, for the new Justice Center, and to honor Don and Alvira Robinson. Finally, Dave Nadler offered a dollar in honor of his daughter’s contribution for the Marching Rockets of Wellston High School and capturing a ‘1’ at State.
The meeting was adjourned.
