GALLIPOLIS — A Gallia County man who pleaded guilty to burglarizing a local residence and leading law enforcement officers on a pursuit earlier this year, was recently sentenced in the Common Pleas Court of Gallia County to serve a six-year term in a state prison facility.

Robert A. Gullett, 29, was sentenced last week to serve six years in the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction for breaking into a Harrisburg Road residence on June 5 of this year and was sentenced to serve a two-year prison term for fleeing and eluding officers, also on June 5.

The sentences in this case were ordered to be served concurrently for a total of six years.

Gullett was arrested by deputies with the Gallia County Sheriff’s Office on June 7 for probation violations.

He was later charged with burglarizing the Harrisburg Road residence, allegedly stealing a compound bow, a laptop, a 46-inch flat-screen television, a tool kit and two fishing poles during the incident; and fleeing and eluding officers and leading them on a pursuit from Ohio 850 to Watts Road.

Additionally, Gullett was also indicted for allegedly bringing marijuana onto the grounds of a detention facility — the Gallia County Jail — on June 9 and for allegedly aiding or abetting Christina Jones on June 13 as she allegedly conveyed drugs of abuse into the Gallia County Jail while he was in custody there.

Reportedly, while incarcerated the defendant had called Jones, 26, Gallipolis, on the recorded jail phone and gave her instructions on how to sneak half of a Suboxone tablet into the jail.

Jones was arrested on the evening of June 13 at the Gallia County Courthouse after a deputy observed her attempting to smuggle a bottle of pills through security fencing to the defendant.

Jones was later charged with the illegal conveyance of drugs onto the grounds of a detention facility in the Gallipolis Municipal Court. However, this case was later dismissed at the request of the state.

Prior to Gullett’s plea hearing in the common pleas court on October 17, a victim’s statement was filed, signed by Gallia County Sheriff Joe Browning, agreeing to the negotiated plea and the above-mentioned prison sentence.

In addition to his six-year prison sentence, Gullett was also ordered to pay $3,000 in restitution to the victim of the June burglary and was ordered to have no contact with the victim in this case.

He was given credit for 132 days served.
