Albert J. Matney, Jr., 74, of Gallipolis, passed away on Tuesday, October 23, 2012, at Cabell Huntington Hospital, Huntington, West Virginia.

He was born May 13, 1938, in Oceana, West Virginia, son of the late Albert J., Sr., and Goldie Hall Matney. Albert was married to Ellen Siders Matney for 40 years.

He was an auto mechanic and coal miner and was of the Baptist faith. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Albert enjoyed his grandkids activities, fishing and pitching horseshoes.

Surviving are his wife, Ellen Matney of Gallipolis; a daughter, Lynn (Mike) Koella of Gallipolis; three sons, Danny (Samantha) Matney of Crown City, Jerry L. Matney of Gallipolis and Jerry Allen Matney of North Carolina; 11 grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; two sisters, Ruth Fike of Mansfield, Ohio, and Jackie (Pete) Biars of Gallipolis.

In addition to his parents, Albert was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Maddy Matney, and his siblings, Loraine, B-Jo and Joe Matney.

Services will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday, October 28, 2012, at Willis Funeral Home with Pastor Alfred Holley officiating. Burial will follow in Mina Chapel Cemetery. There will be military services at the graveside. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday, October 27, 2012, from 6-8 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Danny Matney, Dalton Matney, D.J. Matney, Austin White, Jacob White and Mark Dovenbarger.
