Opal Lee Phillips, 93, of Bidwell, Ohio, passed away at the home of her daughter-in-law, Elostine Phillips, in Columbus, Ohio, on October 16, 2012. She was born December 17, 1918, in Mountain City, Tenn., daughter of the late Jady and Danford Dunn Stout. She retired from Holzer Medical Center where she worked as a nurse’s aide, after that, she was a cook at Bidwell Elementary School. Opal was a member of The Church of God of Prophecy, Gallipolis.
Opal was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Phillips, Sr. in 1987. Also, she was preceded in death by a son, Donald Phillips, Jr.; great-grandson, Jonathan Phillips; brothers, Bruce, Jahue “Jady” and Burnice Stout; a sister, Lyda Jane Gilliam.
Surviving are a daughter-in-law, Elostine Phillips, Columbus, Ohio; grandsons, Damon (Rebecca) Phillips, Columbus, Ohio, David Phillips, Myrtle Beach, S.C., Delton (Susan) Phillips, Sr., Columbus, Ohio; five great-grandchildren, Joshua, Ashleigh, Delton, Jr., Victoria and Thomas; a step great-granddaughter, Mandy Cook; two great-great-grandchildren, Lucas and Lilly; sisters, Juanita Howell, Mesa, Arizona, and Sopha Phillips, Porter, Ohio; brother, Clarence Stout, Bidwell, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m., Saturday, October 20, 2012, at The Church of God of Prophecy, 380 White Road, Gallipolis, Ohio, with Rev. Pat Henson officiating. Burial will follow in Vinton Memorial Park, Vinton, Ohio. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 12 p.m. until the time of service.
