Mamie Garnet Dillon, 85, passed away on Wednesday, September 12, 2012, at her home in Gallipolis. She left this world the same way she lived her life, with a love for her family and a peaceful spirit. Her last words spoken to her children were, “I love you.”
Garnet, who was born on March 3, 1927, is now reunited with those loved ones who went before her, including her parents, Henry and Ruby Meadows; her first husband and the father of her children, Carodus Elliott; a brother, Richard Meadows; three grandchildren, Matthew Elliott, Crody Ryan Elliott and Jody Elliott; a stepson, John Dillon; and a stepdaughter, Rachael Dillon.
She is survived by her husband of 24 years, Kenneth Dillon; her five children, Gene (Ann) Elliott, Roberta (Richard) Saunders, Wayne (Vicki) Elliott, Jan (Kirk) Frazee and Keith (Joy) Elliott; her brothers, Howard (Shirley) Meadows, Archie (Betty) Meadows, Charles Meadows, and Doug (Ann) Meadows; her sisters, Ruth Smith and Nancy Myers; her grandchildren, Rob (Cherie) Elliott, John (Kim) Elliott, Gina (Rob) Bryant, Jared (Tina) Elliott, Jessica Saunders, Dwayne (Jen) Elliott, Beth (Sam) Hamilton, Nathan (Theresa) Frazee, Erin (Matt) Flock, April (Jacob) Nolan, and LeeAnn Berkley; 23 great grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; three stepchildren, Teresa (Douglas) Huston, Diana Dillon and Kathy Sue (Joe) Wilson; seven step-grandchildren; seven step-great grandchildren; and many friends, neighbors, and church members at Faith Baptist Church where she was a member.
At the death of her first husband, Garnet, at the age of 39, was left to care for her five children. She had always been a stay-at-home mom, but she went to Gallipolis Business College, got a job, provided for her children, and lived to see them all become successful.
Garnet was also a talented and gifted lady, and her family is left with numerous quilts, paintings, woven baskets, cross stitch pictures, crocheted doilies and afghans, knitted Christmas stockings, and many other items to remember her by.
She practiced her Christian faith, prayed daily for her loved ones, and is now in Heaven with her Savior.
Services will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2012, at 11 a.m. at the Willis Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Lusher officiating. Burial will follow in Ridgelawn Cemetery at Mercerville. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, September 14, 2012, from 6-9 p.m.
Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
