Jewell Hineman, 89, died at Holzer Medical Center on Monday, September 3, 2012, after a short illness. Jewell was born April 7, 1923, at Polkadotte, Ohio. She has resided the past three years at Abbyshire Place Nursing and Rehab Center in Bidwell, Ohio. She was a homemaker and nurse’s aide/caregiver. She was preceded in death by her husband, Orlyn Hineman (1919-1971), and two sons; David Lynn Hineman (1947-1964), and Scott Morris Hineman (1965-1983). One son survives, Roddy Orlyn Hineman (Kay Berry) of Belpre, Ohio.
Mrs. Hineman graduated as class valedictorian from Rome High School in 1941 and worked at Owens-Illinois, in Huntington, W.Va., during World War II. Married to Orlyn Hineman on November 11, 1945, they operated a small farm on Greasy Ridge in Mason Township. In her later years, she moved to Bidwell, Ohio, where she resided for 31 years. She was a wonderful cook, gardener and devoted mother to her three boys. Jewell was a live-in caregiver for long-term, chronically ill patients until she was 83. She joined the Perkins Ridge Baptist Church as a teen and honored and affirmed the Christian faith throughout her life.
Besides her son, she is survived by one sister, Lois Adkins Everhart of Lecanto, Florida; and one brother, Mack Ellcessor of Manitou Beach, Michigan. She has two grandchildren, David Lynn Hineman, II, of Belpre, Ohio, and Kimberly Anne (Thomas) Weiner also of Belpre, Ohio. Jewell had two great-grandsons, Timothy Allen Weiner, and his twin brother, William Orlyn Weiner, of Belpre. Her parents, Leroy and Chloe (Morris) Ellcessor, preceded her in death, as did her sister, Darlene Clark.
Willis Funeral Home in Gallipolis, Ohio, is handling arrangements.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, September 7 at 11 a.m. at Willis Funeral Home. Visitation is Thursday, September 6 from 5-7 p.m. Rev. Dr. Jeffery S. Atwater will be conducting the memorial service. Burial will follow at Ridgelawn Cemetery.
The family of Mrs. Hineman wish to thank the nurses, nurse’s aides and staff for the wonderful care given Jewell during her stay at Abbyshire Place. They also wish to thank the hospice staff of Holzer Medical Center for their kindness and care during Jewell’s last illness.
