Marlin F. James, 82, Gallipolis, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, September 1, 2012, at Arbors at Gallipolis. Marlin was born on April 17, 1930, in Clay Township, Gallia County, Ohio, son of the late Frank and Norma Barcus James.
He was a retired deckhand on river boats for twenty years. He was an U.S. Army Korean War Veteran and enjoyed camping and spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia James of Gallipolis; two daughters, Marlene (Mike) Blazer of Bidwell, Christine (Gary) Hartman of Batavia, Ohio; one son, Steven (Tammy) James of Gallipolis; stepchildren, Kathy (Tom) Helm of Wellston, Ann Sickels, Danny (Jodi) Sickels both of Gallipolis, and Lisa (Donald) Hofstra of Seaford, Virginia; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Carl James of Crown City, Don (Nancy) James of Gallipolis; two sisters, Charlotte Beach of Vinton and Joyce Violand of Crown City; several nieces and nephews; special caregiver, Frank Gothard; and special friend, Jerry Wade.
He was preceded in death by step son, Mike Sickels; a brother, Leo James; and a nephew, Bruce James; and by two brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, September 5, 2012, at Willis Funeral Home with Pastor Garland Montgomery officiating. Burial will follow in the Ohio Valley Memory Gardens. Friends may call at Willis Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 4, 2012, from 6-8 p.m. Pallbearers will be Jerry Wade, Robbie James, Brent James, Vance Violand, Chuck Beach and Ronnie Beach.
There will be full military rites at the graveside by the members of the Gallia County Funeral Detail.
