Gallia County Local ratifies two union contracts

GALLIPOLIS — The Gallia County Local Board of Education ratified two union contracts at its regular meeting Monday night — that of the Gallia County Local Support Staff Association and the Gallia County Local Education Association.

The conditions of the sports fields at South Gallia High School and River Valley High School were discussed; Superintendent Dr. Charla Evans said that the fields had been surveyed in order to identify problem areas, and that the aim is to get them cleared and mowed as soon as possible.

The board also discussed the local benefit of Ohio’s casino tax. Evans estimates tax revenue to schools to be approximately $21 per student for FY2013, to be distributed some time after December of 2012. FY2014 estimates are $71 per pupil, and FY2015 at $82 per pupil. Evans explained that these are estimates only, the actual amounts will likely differ.

In other business, the board approved the following contracts and agreements: a consultant agreement with Woodland Centers for the provision of services to District ED units for the 2012-13; a contract with the Gallia County Board of DD for physical therapy; a contract with the Gallia County Board of DD for occupational therapy; a contract with the Gallia County Board of DD for transportation costs; a contract with Gallia County Board of DD for Aide Services; a contract with Holzer Health for occupational therapy.

The board also approved a contract with the Gallia County Local Support Staff Association, approved all bus routes and pick-ups for the 2012-2013, and voted to reject all bids for the property of the old Kyger Creek Middle School building.

The following individuals were approved as bus drivers for the 2012-13 school year: Steve Adams; Margaret Adkins; Lewis Bodimer; Cassandra Byer; Terry Cremeans; Patricia Davison; Rebecca Ellis; Don Fillinger; Margaret Hall-Smith; Jeanie Hampton; Miranda Johnson; Sherri Legg; Regina Massey; David Mershon; Matthew Rhodes; Brenda Sanders; Linda Simmers; Ron Slone; Karen Taylor; Carl Ward; I. Sue Ward; Chandra Wolford; Susan Alban; Robert Bence; Barbara Bolyard; Cristal Caldwell; Carla Daniels; Joseph Edwards; Avonda Farley; Mendy Gilbert; Nila Hall; Jody Johnson; Paul Johnson; Wade Little; James McCormick; David Pope; Cathy Roush; Terry Searls; Pat Skidmore; Connie Swindler; Tammy Wallace; Linda Watson; Lillie Willis.

The next regular meeting of the Gallia County Board of Education will be held on September 24.
