Verla Mae Myers, 83, Bidwell, passed away unexpectedly at 1:21 p.m., Sunday, July 29, 2012, in Holzer Medical Center. Born April 9, 1929, in Cheshire, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Otto and Nancy P. Fulton Rothgeb. She was a homemaker and in her earlier years was a nursing assistant to the late Homer B. Thomas, M.D., at the former Gallipolis Clinic.
Miss. Verla loved traveling, reading, listening to music, playing cards, watching old movies and sports, going to auctions, and like most great women, collecting purses, shoes and hats. She had great people skills and loved working with everyone while helping at the Parkfront Diner over the past 10 years. When it came to helping families Verla was at her best, nursing nearly everyone at some point in our lives.
Surviving is her daughter, Carla Myers, Bidwell; two sons, Carl (Karen) Myers, Chillicothe, Ohio, and Jon (Becky) Rothgeb, Gallipolis; grandchildren, Heath (Jodi Johnson) Rothgeb, Denver, Colorado, and Tessa Rothgeb (Tyler) Tandal, Columbus, Ohio; an aunt, Betty Ruth “Bo” Rothgeb, Pomeroy, and nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews, David Evans, Marti Evans Huestis, Travis Burlile, Nicole Porter, John Everett Evans, Kim Evans Thomas and Davey Huestis and many cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Myers, in 1969; two sisters, Betty Lou Evans and Mary Jane Neal; and a nephew, Jim Neal.
It’s now Miss Verla’s time to rest, so Grandma, Grandpa, Mary Jane, Betty and Jim, please welcome her back into your arms again.
A memorial service will be conducted at 10 a.m., Saturday, August 4, 2012, in the Cremeens Funeral Chapel. Officiating will be Pastor Jim Lusher. Friends may visit 30 minutes prior to the memorial service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Verla’s memory to the Ohio State University Foundation, Wexner Medical Center Development, Stephanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research, P.O.
